Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive play style and regular emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to create a third set.

He defended 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
